Custom made shoes!!!!

foot22Most people with diabetes do not need custom-made shoes. However, if you are at risk for amputation, you may need a special shoe—for example, one with extra depth or special inserts. You are considered to be at risk for an amputation if you have already had a toe or partial- foot amputation, if you have a foot deformity, if you have had an ulcer that is now healed, or if you have diabetes-related foot problems. a podiatrist or other health care provider who can examine your feet would be the best person  to advise you about this. A referral to a podiatrist may be necessary.

Heard about Osteomyelitis?

Filed under: Foot care — admin @ 11:19 pm

Osteomyelitis is the medical name for an infection in the bone. If you have a foot ulcer that is not healing well, your health care provider will want to examine your foot with an X ray or scan to determine whether the nearby bones have been affected. This is important because the treatments for bone infection and for soft tissue infection are different. It is also extremely difficult to heal foot ulcers over infected bone. Sometimes surgery is required to remove bone infections.
